This is one of the early original Tolman Skiff boats with a motor well, and flat bottom as designed and built by Renn Tolman and Mary Griswold.
Renn has said he ended up hating the motor wells on these early skiffs, and ended up not building them, and disliking repairing them.
The flat bottom of these skiffs made them better as river and lake skiffs as opposed to the ocean going they were often tasked for. Later the Flat Bottomed Tolman Skiff was redesigned without the motor well and instead with a full width transom and a modified v-bottom for better ocean going characteristics. This boat became the Tolman Standard.
